While the greater goal of your business will probably always remain a passion, it’s very difficult to stay passionate about the day-to-day running of your own business for a number of years, no matter how much you thought you would love doing it forever.

For this reason, when you consider the big picture, you should always visualize yourself out of the system as much as possible. Finding good staff to run the company for you is essential.

Don’t do everything yourself, as it will become much harder to delegate those tasks in future if you decide you wish to do so. This can lead to a feeling of being trapped, and drastically affect your enjoyment of your work. So, as soon as you possibly can, it’s important to start phasing yourself out of your business “system”.

Delegating tasks not only frees you up to focus on the bigger picture, it also significantly improves productivity.

Every new business owner battles with the idea of “if I let others do the task, will they do it as well as I do… and what if they make a mistake..?” With this attitude, you will NEVER learn how to delegate, and will end up ALWAYS doing everything by yourself. Picture yourself in 10 years time – would you be happy with this? Your company will never be able to grow if you think this way.

Let go… Relax. The world won’t end if you let someone else handle things. If you teach them right, they’ll become the most valuable asset you have…
